Lesson 9: Group Revolutionary Study

Overview:

This lesson will be a group designed lesson. In this lesson we will examine various people, battles, and events of the American Revolution. For this lesson students will pair up in to groups of 2 people. Each group will be responsible for picking a person, event, or battle and then doing very in-depth research on such. This means each group needs to decide on a topic to research. There is a lot of freedom in this lesson because I am not assigning any topics; therefore it will be up to each group of 2 to pick a topic. Once each group decides on their topic, they will need to do very specific research. For example if a group chooses to do Ben Franklin, I want them to pick a specific moment in Ben Franklin’s life (which took place during the Revolution), and research it. So, if a group chooses to do Ben Franklin they may want to focus on his influence on the Declaration, or his influence on Philadelphia as the Capital. The point is I want details and not broad over views. Once each group decides on a topic and has done their research, they will then need to create a presentation for the rest of the class. This presentation will include 3 different Web 2.0 tools. Again, I am giving students freedom here to use any tools they feel will present their topic best. The only stipulation is each group must use an audio tool (from a professional recording which is applicable), a slideshow tool, and mapping tool. Other than these rules, each group is free to be as creative as possible for their presentation.

Presentation:

Students will use 3 different Web 2.0 tools in this presentation. Each group will need to choose an audio tool from a professional recording (youtube, PBS, History Channel, etc....) tool, a mapping tool, and a slideshow tool. I am looking for creativity and detail. I want the audio tool to be from a professionally recorded source, mapping tools to have 5-10 locations with details, and slideshows to have 10-20 pictures. Obviously each topic will vary in how much information will lend itself to these tools, however detailed research should allow for each group to build each tool with in these guidelines.

Resources:

For this lesson students will be using a variety of Web 2.0 tools. I have provided a link below where students can find the tools they will be using for their presentations. We will do this in class, and will do research in class through using the internet.

Below I have provided an example of 3 different tools and an idea of the detail I am looking for. The Example is on the Stamp Act.
